A Scottish comedian has revealed that he took a banned psychedelic substance in the Amazon rainforest in an effort to cure his depression.
Darren Connell said the experience, which made him vomit so much he could not eat for days, had left him with a fresh outlook on life and visions of how to improve his lot.
Speaking about the experience on Morning with Stephen Jardine on BBC Scotland, Connell, 32, said: “[Depression] maybe came into my life when I was about 16 onwards — sometimes it’s been bad, then not as bad.
“A couple of years ago I found myself caught in a rut: self-medicating with alcohol and food; the stress of being a stand-up comedian.”
