Alabama lawmakers today changed a bill that would have legalized medical marijuana to instead appoint a commission to study the issue. The sponsor of the legislation, Sen. Tim Melson, R-Florence, said he preferred to stick with his original bill but understood the need for lawmakers to have more information. OAKLAND — Oakland could become the second city in the nation to allow the use of psilocybin mushrooms — also known as “magic mushrooms” — following in Denver’s footsteps. Oakland’s city council will vote June 4 on a resolution barring police from enforcing laws that criminalize the use of “entheogenic” plants, which include psilocybin mushrooms, ayahuasca and peyote.
