About 6 percent of Utah adults, between the ages of 18 and 34, reported using marijuana within a 30 day period, according to a report by the Utah Department of Health.
The use range for adults above 35-years was between 5 to 1 percent.
According to data collected by the Prevention Needs Assessment (PNA), more men (7.7 percent) use marijuana than women (4.6).
For young adults in middle school and high school, 8.2 percent of youth have used marijuana in the past 30 days in 2017 (the most recent data available).
Adults in Summit County (10.5 percent) and Salt Lake County (8.2 percent) have higher usage rates than the state average. Utah Counties usage is lower (2.6 percent).
According to the study, adults who used marijuana did it for non-medical (42.3 percent), and both non-medical and medical (30.8 percent) reasons. Those with poor mental health and chronic pain reported using marijuana for medical reasons (26.9 percent).
There was no statistical differences by sex or age for use.
However, woman and older adults have reported a higher perceived risk of harm from marijuana than men and younger adults.
This report was released after Proposition 2, Utah’s medical marijuana initiative, was passed in November of 2018.
